Nittnaus

The cave

The Nittnaus family has been practicing viticulture for over 300 years. In 1986, Hans and Christine Nittnaus took over the estates of their respective parents and united them. At the beginning, the production area represented only a few hectares, but quickly, Hans and Christine Nittnaus discovered a real passion for wine. This is how they gradually expanded their estate, which today reaches more than 57 hectares spread over more than 70 vineyards.

The domain

Perfectly healthy grapes are an essential condition for obtaining high quality wines. Also, cultural interventions are carried out with the greatest care and in accordance with the principles of sustainable development. “The many efforts that we invest in the maintenance of the vines are aimed at ensuring a sustainable use of the soil and the rural landscape. Pruning aimed at limiting yield, weeding of the soil, leaf stripping and consequent thinning allow the grapes to develop all their flavor and quality.

Terroir

In the varied landscape bordering Lake Neusiedl, the great variety of soils favors the cultivation of a wide range of grape varieties: in addition to Grüner Veltliner and Welschriesling, it is Pinot blanc and Chardonnay which dominate among the whites, while Zweigelt tops the list of reds alongside Blaufränkisch, St. Laurent and Pinot Noir as well as international grape varieties.
