Rocks and woods, unfathomable natural springs, sunny and steeply sloping traditional "coster" vineyards that top it off is the Masia or farmhouse with its ancient underground cellars. It is solidly built, high and protected by the nearby mountain of Sarraí. A dream has come true in this remote corner of the region known as the "Historical Priorat". It is framed by the limestone cliffs of the Cordillera Montsant and Llaberia, caressed by the north wind from Serè and the wind from the sea of Garbinada from the southeast, this place can only be understood as a single unit, a single domain .

When I tasted this vintage for the first time, in 2018, I recommended another two to three years in the cellar in order to be able to express all its beautiful complexity. This turned out to be correct and this blend is now excellent to drink, while offering a very good aging potential.

Complex, richly nuanced aromas announcing a grand cru are revealed on the nose: blackberry, blackcurrant, cherry, floral notes, tobacco, vanilla and cedar wood. This red wine is made from the best grapes of the Petit Verdot and Syrah varieties, can we read on the back label. This is an extraordinary blend with remarkable qualities: the Petit Verdot gives it substance and freshness, while the Syrah is found in its aromatic components, its richness and its power. In the glass, we discover a multi-faceted wine that has a lot of body.

The Bellmunt Blanco is this marvelous wine for an aperitif. Whether after a beautiful day, to celebrate, or after painful moments, when you just want to relax and think only of the happiness of life. Because that's exactly what's in that bottle. The song of the birds, the breeze coming from the ocean which caresses the mountain and our skin, the ground which creaks delicately under our feet. This wine is life! This wine is the one you always want to have at home. because it reassures us and fills us with joy. And then because he perfectly expresses the words of David Foenkinos: There is always something different in the same...

Le petit blanc”: this is how Marta Rovira has affectionately named the latest addition to her range of wines, which expresses in all its personality the terroir of the Bellmunt mountain. The nose reveals complex aromas with notes of fruit (orange, apricot, peach), scents of rose and orange blossom, but also mineral notes (slate). A nuance of balsamic aromas brings an unexpected final touch. On the palate, the interaction between the fresh fruit and the blooming texture seduces from the start and develops into the long, linear and elegant finish with its acidity mastered to perfection.

Geneva, Switzerland

Rosé 2020 by KYRRO x. Cédric Delacquis is the most personal and elegant rosé wine. Designed to accompany you in your most beautiful emotions, it offers new sensations on the nose and in the mouth. It gives you the freedom to choose what will be your best moments.

We have created the future of Rosé.

An innovative blend, a reflection of the diversity of the Swiss terroir, of creativity, and of the universe.

The structure and strength of Pinot Gris, and the elegance of Gewürztraminer combine to form the first Rosé made 100% from white grape varieties.

A deep color

Emerald red with pink and orange reflections

A bewitching bouquet

The enchantment of floral notes, scents of lychee and bright red fruits

Berry-like sweetness disperses and lightens.

A harmonious balance between fruitiness and freshness.

A refreshing finish with a deliciously bittersweet note of pink grapefruit and lychee, accompanied by silky tannins.

Vision

At the twilight of a harvest, a decision is made to pay homage to the time that inevitably passes away. Initiatory journey in pursuit of ataraxia, tranquility of the soul; pursuit evolving into a duty to transmit simple pleasures. Sincerity in the face of natural phenomena. Fascination for the act of transformation, perpetual metamorphosis of the living. Where does the substance stop? Where does the experience begin? Celebrating the vine through its alterations; decode its mysteries. From a millennial tradition, to draw the right gesture, the beautiful gesture.

Confection

Touch the vineyards of French-speaking Switzerland with your palms, map the native grape varieties; in search of the specific characteristics of our little-known terroirs. To become a geologist, to become a historian, to become an alchemist - the time of a deliberately slowed down process to cut the wine gems that will make up each of the creations. Do not upset the natural cycle, let the grapes sublimate themselves to the ascetic rhythm of the lunar phases. Experiment, stray, start over. Tirelessly. Refuse filters and artifice. Convert the ardor of the creator into a fragile balance; exaltation of centuries-old craftsmanship paired with contemporary sensibility.

Promise

Expression of a Geneva goldsmith, each assembly seeks to tell through its body, its reflection, its complex colors, its anecdotes. Willingly audacious, these iconoclastic incarnations, harvested by hand, seduce by the amplitude of their range. Where the aromas, chiseled by the natural decantation, lull the sensations, it is a question of surprising - without whims - and of offering an ephemeral plenitude. From bottles filled with voluptuousness, we will detect the maze of time, the labor of man.

Bodegas Aragonesas is a huge, marvelous estate. I remember when I was there. It was still the beginning of the day, we found ourselves in the middle of the vines on one of the highest plots (600m) overlooking the vineyard which was slowly beginning to warm up, caressed by the soft orange rays of the sun. The grapes were beautiful and firm, the harvest period was approaching. This is where I first heard about Fagus, this wine made 100% from red Grenache and after hard and meticulous work.

To understand the Fagus, what you have to do is imagine this moment of autumn or even winter, a veil of red and yellow leaves covers the trees and the ground, a down of beautiful powdery and welcoming snow, we are in a comfortable and warm home with the person we love more than anything, the fireplace is perhaps even crackling, we are happy and we taste some hot chestnuts bought recently from this merchant who cheerfully shouted "hot my chestnuts, hot, taste my chestnuts!". Well the wine that we open will be the Fagus. At this moment, we will have the impression of being able to seize the stars, achieve perfection a little more with each sip...

The cave

Although Bodegas Aragonesas was founded in 1984, the cultivation of vines - in particular Grenache - dates back to 1145 and the Cistercian monks of the monastery of Veruela, located a short distance from Fuendejalón and Magallón.

Their ancestors inherited this precious and historical heritage and they, the following generations, enriched it to reach its full potential.

They express their love for Grenache on the land and in the cellar. They know it's an essential part of their heritage and they do their best to continuously improve their growing and winemaking methods.

Their brands, Fagus in particular, are the jewels of their cellar. They enjoy an international reputation that has earned them numerous awards and accolades.

Terroir

Their 3,700 hectares of vines give them a symphony of colors. The red and stony soil offers the best environment for their main grape varieties: Garnacha, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Mazuela, Chardonnay, Macabeo and Muscat.

These vigorous and robust vineyards, some of which are over 100 years old, are firmly planted in unrivaled land which, combined with a harsh climate, gives the grapes their special quality and personality.

I actually discovered Abadia Retuerta in 2018 during a trip to Spain from Madrid to Barcelona, stopping at many areas. I could speak for hours of the beauty of the estate, of the wonderful people who received us, of the hotel in the middle of the vineyards simply named "Le Domaine", an old abbey dating from 1146 which had been abandoned and which was restored with exceptional care and attention to detail by Abadia. But it is on this last point that I will develop my explanation of this area: "care and attention to detail". In Switzerland, there is a watch brand called "Greubel & Forsey" and their slogan is “watch inventors.” For me, Abadia Retuerta are “wine inventors”. They are such enthusiasts that they have been joined by the best since in particular the facilities were designed by Pascal Delbeck, owner of the exceptional Château Ausonne. They planted, studied, created and developed methods specially adapted to their terroir to offer us wonderful wines.

The Selección Especial, entry level of the estate is nonetheless a great wine. It's like pushing open the door of an abbey and then, once inside, discovering a fresco by Michelangelo; marvel at these features mixing fruit and acid as well as intense perfumes to finally find yourself admiring next to a gentleman with a face that lets you imagine thousands of stories, smoking his cigar, too, although having an immense life experience, in awe of the detail and smooth finesse of this work...

Abadía Retuerta is a Spanish winery founded in 1996. The estate is located just outside the boundary of the Ribera del Duero region, in the province of Castilla y León, in north central Spain, near the village of Sardon del Duero. Located 32km east of the city of Valladolid, it sits in wine estates that stretch from Tudela de Duero to Peñafiel, known as the "golden mile". In particular, it is only a few kilometers from the famous producer Vega Sicilia.

The domain

The Abadía Retuerta estate extends over 710 ha, of which 210 ha are planted with vines. The altitude is 640 m near the Duero River and rises to about 780 m. The composition of the soil is heterogeneous, with sand, clay and some gravel near the river and limestone interspersed with aggregate boulders and stones on the top of the hill. The climate is extremely continental and semi-desert, with hot summers, cold winters and average annual rainfall of 300 mm to 450 mm. Being outside the DO Ribera del Duero allows them to use drip irrigation when they need it. The 54 plots extend over 206 hectares (HA) of which 146 are planted with Tempranillo, 40 with Cabernet Sauvignon, 16 with Merlot, 2 with Syrah and 2 with Petit Verdot.

The installations

The winemaking facilities were designed by consultant oenologist Pascal Delbeck, owner of Château Ausone, who still works with the estate and Angel Anocíbar. The winery is designed around a gravity flow system and has a laboratory and a 5,000 barrel capacity aging cellar carved into the side of the adjacent mountain. Wines can be aged in the 80 stainless steel vats, or in any combination of the 3,700 225-litre Bordeaux-style barrels, made from 80% French oak and 20% American oak. Some French oak comes from Limousin forests, others from Allier trees. Humidity and temperature are maintained at optimum levels for wine development.

France, Chateauneuf du Pape

The nose reveals a dense aromatic palette reminiscent of ripe cherries, currant jelly, raspberries, spices (licorice, caramel), dark chocolate and discreet notes of aging (tobacco, smoke). On the palate, this red Châteauneuf-du-Pape is both rich and elegant. The typical aromatic profile is found on the palate, where the tannins well integrated into the fruity structure leave an impression of harmony. The finish is persistent, long and complex.

It is also important to note that 2016 was an exceptional vintage in Châteauneuf, worthy of the greatest and most famous, such as 2010 to name only the most recent.

This wine will be ideal with your dishes based on red meat, or a delicious starter with mushrooms (like a small soup of broccoli with Colman's mustard with its pan-fried porcini mushrooms with shallots), or even some cheeses, if you prefer red with these...

In the beginning was a pope

We like to think that it was wine that attracted the papacy to Avignon in the 14th century. The suite of Jean XXII indeed included the winegrowers at the origin of the restoration of the vineyards and their viticultural practices. They shaped the character of their wines and thus opened their borders to Europe. These wines were so delicious that when the pope returned to Rome, the cardinals showed some reluctance "How to live happily without the nectar of the gods?"...

The Sénéchaux Woods

The Domaine des Sénéchaux is one of the oldest vineyards in its illustrious appellation. The existence of vines is indeed attested there from the 14th century.

The estate takes its name from "Bois Sénéchaux", one of its main plots.

In the 1950s, under the direction of the Raynaud family, the vineyard already covered its current area. In 1993, the estate passed into the hands of Pascal Roux who undertook a complete restructuring of the vines and a renovation of the cellars.

Under the direction of Bernard Tranchecoste for two decades, the estate has undergone a profound restructuring. Thus the implementation of virtuous techniques such as short pruning, tillage, organic fertilization, leaf stripping or manual harvesting have enabled the extensive renovation of the vineyard.

The Cazes family, owner of several wine estates, including the Lynch-Bages and Haut-Batailley castles in Pauillac, acquired the Domaine des Sénéchaux in 2006. From then on, they endeavored to continue improving the vineyard by providing special care for plant material while respecting the environment. In 2018, the partnership concluded with the Pradon family, which became co-owners, brought new impetus to the property .

Terroir

You will find them in the south of the Rhône valley, on the famous plateau of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Their largest and most homogeneous plots extend over five very distinct growing areas. They form the soil of their main red grape varieties: Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
On the slopes facing south and south-west, these three grape varieties represent 22.4 of their 27 hectares of vines. In addition, they are fortunate to enjoy a terroir conducive to the cultivation of white grape varieties. They occupy 3 hectares on the highest point of the vineyard and produce wines of remarkable freshness.

Summers are long and hot. The mistral with its prodigious force, chases away mist and humidity and promotes summer drought while limiting vine diseases. Its breath is a real asset for the Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyard on the eve of the harvest, it also increases the sugar concentration of the grapes and dries them after the rain.

Thanks to these climatic characteristics, their red grape varieties are rich, structured and spicy. As for the white grape varieties, mostly located on the highest point of the estate, they draw their delicious freshness from a northern exposure.

The soils of Châteauneuf-du-Pape result from the combination of the Alpine diluvium and the retreat of the Rhône over a period of several million years encompassing four ice ages. This exceptional terroir , poor by nature, because it is rich in gravel and rolled pebbles, is conducive to retaining heat and ripening the grapes early. The soils of their plots are characterized by their variety. The common denominator for all of their plots, however, remains the presence of a clay base promoting a certain water retention and resistance to water stress. While their white grape varieties thrive on superficial sandy-clay soils, the reds grow on quartzite pebbles resting on three types of subsoil: stony clay-limestone, deep sandy and mollassic and safre sandstone.

The accidental discovery of some white grape vines gave rise to more than 20 years of research. Thanks to these efforts, their first white wine was born. A terroir wine made for ageing. A marvel in its purest form!

It is largely obtained from Sauvignon Blanc, to which they add a touch of Verdejo and a little alchemy with other white grape varieties, depending on the characteristics of the vintage.

Despite the altitude and the fact that they are located in a traditional area of red grape varieties, these white grape varieties have adapted beautifully to their climate. They naturally give low yields, with small clusters that benefit from the sun of Pago la Raya and the refraction of its soil made of sand, rocks and pebbles. They guarantee almost perfect ripening at each harvest, which allows them to obtain well-structured, balanced and long-lasting wines.

The vinification method is the one that has given them the best results over many years of observation, with a slow fermentation that ends in barrels, a stirring of the lees that brings richness and complexity, and a final rest of five to seven months. in new barrels and those used for previous vintages.

The result is a surprising, original, intense wine with character, full-bodied and unctuous, with a long and fresh finish. Designed to improve over time, it is a true reflection of the personality of their terroir.

Opening a bottle of this wine is setting off on an extraordinary gustatory and emotional journey...

Spain, Somontano

Describing Blecua is a very complicated exercise; yes, because words fail me. There are times when even they let us down. And this usually happens in exceptional moments.

We always remember the moment when we drink for the first time a very great wine. I will never forget the first perfumes of Blecua.

It was dark, the temperature was mild. Our driver takes us on a small gravel road and, as I turn my head to see the landscape, an absolutely splendid building takes shape before my eyes! It's Blecua. A few moments later, we arrive at the large wrought iron gate that stands majestically in front of us. At the dawn of this discovery, the emotion rises. As we follow our guide, the director of the house, through a visit where everything is synonymous with wonder, one thing constantly comes back to hit me in the head: the attention to detail and incomparable quality that resonates and carries every day the magicians who produce this wine.

An hour has passed. I am seated around a table worthy of the greatest receptions that we once knew. A sound resounds. That of the first drops of Blecua leading their brooms to throw themselves into my glass. It's here, finally! It was time for my first sip of Belcua.

The symphony begins! I smell it and its ample bouquet integrates aromas from the most diverse sources: floral notes, spices, fruits and roasted aromas. This complex sensation combined, as it reaches my mouth, with very present tannins, a fruity structure and a rich body, thrills me as a wine rarely thrills me! Everything calms down, the spirits return to us, here is a great wine which illustrates Spanish modernity. This is a wine that I affectionately nicknamed: “my Spanish Petrus“.

Fearing that all this is the fruit of the emotion linked to this visit, I therefore bought bottles and had fun having them tasted, to others and to myself, blind or not, each time the verdict is unanimous (it even beat references as imposing as Vega Sicilia)!

All that remains is to order a case of this gem, open a bottle and let it air for an hour, an evening when we feel good, alone in meditation or with the person of our dreams, perhaps even add the notes of the Ave Maria, and here is the start of a waking journey to wonderland.

The cave

Just over ten years after its creation, Viñas del Vero was already the first winery in the Denomination of Origin of Somontano and was ready to launch one of its most cherished projects: the creation of a winery that would not only produce premium wines. Blecua is a charming and delicious winery that opened its doors in July 2000. It is very close to Viñas del Vero, along the Vero river that connects Barbastro to Alquézar.
Blecua, better known locally as "torre Blecua" ("Blecua tower"), dates back to the 11th century, when it served as a retreat for the French Benedictine monks of Santa Fe de Conques. It extends over fourteen hectares in the very center of Somontano and includes a beautiful Italian villa which was built towards the end of the 19th century and which Viñas del Vero restored in order to build the winery where they make their most popular wine. emblematic: Blecua.

Elaboration

Blecua is the result of a triple selection: vines, grapes, and barrels.

Viñas del Vero has selected its best vineyards as places to grow the grapes that will produce Blecua every year. These are seven or eight low-yielding vineyards, located in areas with different microclimates of Somontano, on hillsides very exposed to the sun, which allows them to pick the different varieties that make up the blend at their point of maturity. optimum.

The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in small 10 kg crates. Upon arrival at the winery, the bunches are transferred to a sorting table to be selected, so that only the best quality grapes make it to the fermentation tanks. The grapes from the different vineyards are fermented separately in 18,000 liter French Allier oak vats. Fermentation and subsequent maceration continue for four weeks depending on the grape variety. The malolactic fermentation begins in the fermentation tanks and then, once it has started, the wines are transferred to barrels.

The wines are each placed in new French Allier oak barrels from four different cooperages. After twelve months in barrels, the best of each of the wines is selected, after which the final blend is made and put back in barrels for an additional eight months of ageing. Blecua therefore spends a total of 20 months in barrel before being bottled directly from the barrels without undergoing any stabilization or filtering process.

One of the characteristics of Blecua is that it is different every year, because only the best casks of each variety are retained through each of the selection processes.

Terroir

Somontano is a region of Upper Aragon that is exceptional on two fronts: the richness of its natural environment and the beauty of its historical heritage: Alquézar, Torreciudad and the cave paintings of the Sierra de Guara are good examples.

Located near the Pyrenees and crossed by the Vero river, the Somontano offers exceptional conditions for growing vines. Rolling hills, dun-colored limestone, highly permeable soils, extreme winters and short summers create unprecedented agroclimatic conditions for the production of excellent wines. The Romans discovered it nearly twenty centuries ago and wine lovers still enjoy the results today.

Several influences come into play in the landscape of Somontano: the foothills of the Pyrenees, where the Sierra y Cañones de Guara nature reserve is located, the Sierra de Salinas, the Vero and Cinca rivers, which meander through the region and a horizon of vineyards , olive groves, holm oaks and almond trees.

In 1985, Viñas del Vero and several other local wineries instituted the Denomination of Origin Somontano which, in addition to being a benchmark of quality, is synonymous with respect for tradition and geographical origin, given that all grapes used to make DO Somontano wines come from vineyards in the area. Somontano is an innovative and dynamic Denomination of Origin which, in just a few years, has acquired an excellent reputation in the world of wine, both in Spain and internationally.

Vintages

The first commercialized Blecua wine was made from the 1997 harvest, which was released in September 2000. They only bottled 15 barrels from the 1997 harvest and the wine was made from equal amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha and Tempranillo.

Blecua 1998 was exceptional because it was a historic year for Somontano, considered by all to be the best year since the creation of the designation of origin: 68 barrels of Blecua were made, from two main varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Garnacha.

The 1999 Blecua was not released for sale, however. The wine did not meet the quality parameters they considered necessary for a wine of this level and with these characteristics, so the 1999 vintage was skipped.

Since the creation, only the 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013 vintages have been marketed and the most exceptional remain the 1998 and 2011 vintages.

Educate, prune, resize.
These small corded bushes with red leaves in the fall. These clusters of pinot noir not white, chardonnay, pinot meunier, cliff chalk work put to dry at the exit of the ocean. Passage ironing re-tinning of the same sun a hundred million years
Finally finally, we are getting closer to the eighteenth century!
Mozart, Bach, Voltaire, Diderot etc...
My light! My aerials! Champagne! Champagne!
I raise my glass towards the sun, my solar glass. The ascent to Heaven ascends me to Heaven with the irrepressible breathing of the ages, a wanderer of the air.
Yes the light you have to drink it! You have to believe her! You have to love the conversion that she accomplishes with eyes and mouth in the order of time.
Champagne hat! We're messing around! We lose our heads, royally at Aÿ. Let creation create! Long live chalk! Long live chalk-action!

Through the finesse of its bubbles, its seductive aromas and its lingering finish, the Special Cuvée reveals Bollinger at its best. On the nose and on the palate, the Special Cuvée is distinguished by very complex and well-blended aromas. To the floral notes are added scents of fruits and berries completed by a touch of aromas of brioche. A superb and very sustained finish sums up all these elements in a masterful final tableau. The Special Cuvée is the most accomplished expression of the “BOLLINGER style”. All the know-how of the House is revealed in its ability to recreate each year a consistent blend in style and quality, to recompose this bouquet of aromas, this unique blend of body, balance, vinosity and finesse. It is therefore on this wine that the House bases its difference, commits its qualitative choices and intends to be judged.

The House

Since 1829, the Bollinger Champagne House has been creating champagnes of prestigious character, which are distinguished by their elegance and complexity. These exceptional wines are the result of rigorous attention to detail, because Bollinger accepts nothing less than excellence. Each detail represents the quest for a certain form of perfection. This spirit of uncompromising independence, dedicated to accomplishment without ostentation, exemplifies the inimitable elegance for which Champagne is renowned and which so impressed the Court of England that the House has been awarded the Royal Warrant since 1884.

Terroir

The 178 hectares of the House are planted at 85% in Grand Cru and Premier Cru, spread over seven main vineyards: Aÿ, Avenay, Valeurières, Louvois and Verzenay are planted in Pinot Noir, Cuis in Chardonnay and Champvoisy in Pinot Meunier. Bollinger is one of the few champagne houses to produce the majority of its own grapes for its blends. Pinot Noir represents 60% of the House's vineyard, which corresponds exactly to the proportion of this demanding variety in the Special Cuvée blend. Complex and powerful, it gives Bollinger wines a remarkable structure.

Another peculiarity of Bollinger: two plots, Clos Saint-Jacques and Chaudes Terres, which have never succumbed to phylloxera, a disease which ravaged almost all of the Champagne vineyards at the beginning of the 20th century. These non-grafted vines are entirely worked by hand and reproduced according to a mode of stratification called provignage, thus making it possible to preserve this extraordinary heritage from which the very exclusive cuvée Vieilles Vignes Françaises is produced.
